Responsibilities: • Research best practices and maintain current knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation and guidelines to ensure the organization is in compliance. • Develop, implement and evaluate department specific policies and procedures and consult with managers to ensure they include occupational health and infection control principles in their policy and procedures. • Work with the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee and partner with Human Resources to determine strategies for a healthy work environment. • Supervise pre-placement health reviews, immunization, communicable disease surveillance, crisis intervention and primary care, as well as back care training, lifts and transfers and Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) claims management in order to manage wellness and health & safety needs. • Assist managers in enhancing health and safety programs within their departments. • Responsible for management of short-term disability / incidental absence program including prevention and return to work strategies. • Develop, implement and evaluate policies and procedures of Infection Control Services to control, reduce and prevent spreading of infection to patients and staff as well as liaise with and act as the resource to the Infection Control Committee and Outbreak Management Team. • Oversee modified work and return to work early intervention strategies and partner with insurance companies to minimize and reduce cost related to WSIB claims and disability programs. • Create Occupational Health & Safety and Infection Control key indicators for the organization in order to develop action plans regarding areas of improvement. • Preparing, monitoring and administering departmental budget by providing forecasts and conducting monthly budget versus cost reviews to determine variances and address them. |
| Requirements: | • Baccalaureate Degree in nursing, or diploma with equivalent work experience • Occupational Health Diploma or Certificate • Infection Control Diploma or Certificate preferred • ONA Current Certificate of Competence • Current OHN designation (COHN) preferred • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) preferred • Current CPR Certification • 5 years related Occupational H&S progressive management experience, preferably in a direct patient care setting • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA), regulations under the OHSA for healthcare and residential facilities, Public Hospitals Act, Health Promotion and Protection Act, Workplace and Safety Board Act and WHIMIS regulations • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills • Proven ability to manage conflict and have good judgment in crisis situations • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with staff at all levels • Intermediate to advanced MS Office and MS Outlook skills • Working knowledge of Parklane an asset Please include “Manager Occupational H&S and Infection" in the subject line and apply to zag@careerconnectionsinc.com Visit www.careerconnectionsinc.com often to view new postings of interest and www.career.dontinterviewaudition.com for free tips and advice on interviewing! |
